Formerly St Mary's Episcopal Church at Highfield from 1832 to the mid 20th Century. The site remained derelict until the late 1970's when it was converted to a dwelling. Before this Ord Cottage in the village served as the church. The old Highfield House burnt down in a fire, and was located behind the trees over the road from us.
Some historical information at the link below. A great insight into how all the dwellings on the Highfield Estate linked together.
About this space
Located just north of Inverness at the start of the NC500. This character house is very well situated in the countryside, for a highland getaway. Guests can bring up-to two well- behaved dogs and have their own garden to use, with an enclosure.
The space
This quirky property has lots of character, with a lobby, large open plan dining area, games room, lounge room, a well-proportioned and equipped kitchen, small kitchenette, three double bedrooms, and a cosy bunk bed room that doubles as a work space. The family bathroom boasts a walk-in shower and luxurious stand-alone bath. Two additional shower rooms and WC are located downstairs. There is a sofa bed in the games room and a double tri-fold floor mattress is also available.
Guests can entertain themselves in the games room which offers a large TV, seating area with sofa bed, table football and a selection of board games. There is also a lounge downstairs and seating area by the stairs. Both equipped with televisions. Within the large south-facing garden there is a picnic table within a secure enclosure for children and dogs. Off-road parking accommodates up to 4 cars.

Location
Muir of Ord is approximately half a mile away. See map below. It has a station, small supermarket, bakery, two pubs, a petrol station, library and several cafes. There is a large Tesco in Dingwall and a medium sized Co-Op in Beauly (both 10 minutes drive away). A bus route between Dingwall and Inverness passes the house and from Muir of Ord Station guests can travel to the Highland capital of Inverness, north-east towards Dornoch and beyond or to the stunning west coast of Scotland.
Pets
Guests can upto two well-behaved dogs, however they must stay downstairs and not be left unattended in the property. When in the garden, please make sure they are on a lead or within the enclosure as there are farm animals in the adjacent fields.
Sustainability
At Highfield House we encourage an eco-friendly approach. The property is heated through an air sourced heat pump which keeps it cosy throughout the Scottish winters. The hot water is also heated using the heat pump.
We have a heat composting bin in the garden for all food waste. This produces compost much quicker than a standard compost bin. You can put any food waste in here and a food caddy is provided in the kitchen. We encourage guests to recycle using the bins provided.
We use environmentally friendly products for many cleaning and washing activities.
Buying locally produced food and drink is also something we encourage (plus it’s very tasty!), please speak to your host for recommendations.
Technology
The property has high speed fibre wireless internet with speeds usually above 50mb. There is a Toshiba 32 inch smart tv downstairs and Panasonic Viera 42 inch tv upstairs with Amazon Fire Stick. In the kitchen there is an Amazon Echo available to use with your own amazon account..
About
My name is Neil and I do all the housekeeping and property management. During your stay I'll never be far away if you have any queries. I moved to Northern Scotland in December 2020 and am a keen golfer. The Highfield Golf Escapes element is run by myself. I also like exploring the remote areas of Scotland in my roof tent.
